I wasn’t always this proud to be a "Flandrien."
In fact, it took moving across the ocean for me to truly appreciate what makes Flemish so special — not just the language, but the culture, the humor, the way we connect.
For over two decades, I taught Dutch and English in Flanders, guiding students through the beauty and complexity of both languages.
Then, life took a twist. I met my American wife, and when she moved to Belgium, I witnessed firsthand the challenges she faced.
It wasn’t just about learning words; it was about feeling connected, understanding unspoken customs, and navigating a culture that can feel a little closed off to outsiders.

Seeing her journey opened my eyes to something important:
language is more than grammar and vocabulary.
It’s the key to belonging.
Without it, even the friendliest places can feel isolating.

That experience stayed with me when we moved to the U.S. I realized there was a gap — no one was teaching Flemish in a way that made it accessible for Americans.
Most courses teach Dutch the way it’s spoken in the Netherlands, which is like learning British English when you’re moving to Texas.
Sure, people will understand you, but you’ll always sound like an outsider.

So, I created Flemish Made Simple.

This isn’t just about language; it’s about building a bridge.
I teach from the perspective of someone who understands both worlds.
My goal is to fast-track your learning by focusing on what really matters:
practical language you can use right away, cultural insights that help you blend in, and shortcuts that make everything click faster.
Whether you’re moving to Flanders for work, study, or love, I want to help you feel at home.
Flemish Made Simple is more than a course — it’s your first step toward an unforgettable adventure.

Welkom. Let’s get started.
